Gail Hanevold is a veteran teacher of 25 years. She currently teaches students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities in Minneapolis, MN. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Masters Degree in the area of Emotional Behavioral Disorders, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Elementary and Secondary Administration.
While on a sabbatical, Gail researched a behavior intervention she created. The results of this research project landed her in an unanticipated position of entrepreneur. Being motivated by her family and colleagues, Gail took on the task of filing for a patent (pending) on the visual cuing device she created, known as the Wrist-O-Pic, and started her own business: Creative Behavior Interventions, LLC.
In addition to the success and self-confidence this intervention brings to students, this endeavor has opened up a host of new professional growth opportunities for Gail. She has self-published the behavior intervention, The Teacher’s Tutorial: Using Metaphors to Modify Behavior, A No-Nag Intervention, and has been invited to write and facilitate on-line courses for The Professional Learning Board. When her schedule permits, Gail presents her research findings, and other behavior-related innovations, to professionals at local, state, and national conventions.
